A Newcastle man drove on the wrong side of the road with kids in his car. He was caught after a witness alerted police about his dangerous driving.
A witness saw him driving badly and flagged down a police officer. The 45-year-old was stopped on Bath Street. The officer found two children in the back of his Vauxhall Corsa.
Viegas failed a breath test. He had 91 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath. The legal limit is just 35 micrograms.
In court, Viegas pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He now faces a long driving ban. The prosecutor said the officer was alerted by a concerned citizen.
The officer saw Viegas’s car and pulled him over. He noticed the two kids inside and that two of Viegas’s tires were deflated. The car also had damage to the rear.
Magistrates want a pre-sentence report before making a final decision. Viegas’s case is adjourned until March 25. He was released on bail but received an interim driving ban.
