A 21-year-old man was caught drink-driving after crashing his car in Newcastle following a night out with friends celebrating his exam results
He crashed his Mini Countryman into barriers on Shields Road Bypass in Byker. A police officer saw the crash and pulled him over. Kelso failed the breath test, showing he was over the limit.
The legal limit is 35mcg, but he had 72mcg of alcohol in his breath. Now, he’s banned from driving for 20 months. In court, he admitted to driving with excess alcohol.
The officer found him on the footpath, pointing to his car, which was off the road. Kelso claimed he only had one drink and didn’t plan to drive. But he changed his mind.
His lawyer said he thought enough time had passed since his last drink. Kelso was remorseful and had no prior convictions. He was fined £403 and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
