Sunderland: Exciting news for bike lovers! The city council has approved a new bike storage facility at Elemore Country Park. This is a big step for the park, which is becoming a community hub.

The park covers 61 hectares and has transformed from a former colliery and golf club into a green space. A community café and garden centre opened in 2023, making it a great spot for locals.

The council is focused on creating a fun place for families. They’ve hosted music festivals and built a play park for kids. Plus, a fitness trail is in the works to keep everyone active.

In 2024, plans were submitted for a steel container to store bikes. This container will help develop a cycle hub managed by volunteers. The council approved this plan on January 27, 2025.

The bike storage will be used by the Coalfield Community Cycle Group. It will support outdoor activities and make the park more enjoyable for everyone. The container will be mostly hidden by nearby buildings and plants.

While the container will take away two staff parking spots, there’s plenty of parking available nearby. The council’s transport officer has no concerns about safety or parking issues.
