Cork: The UK Met Office has named the storm Éowyn. It’s brewing in the Atlantic and could hit Ireland hard. Expect damaging winds this Friday.

Both Irish and UK meteorologists are keeping a close eye on it. They warn of travel disruptions, power outages, and possible building damage. The storm will move across Ireland, then onto Wales, Northern England, and Scotland from Friday afternoon into Saturday.

Most of Ireland is likely to get an Orange Warning soon. Some areas might even see a rare Red Warning for the worst impacts. Right now, it looks like the storm will track north of Ireland’s South West coast. But that could change. Regardless, places like Kerry and Cork are in for a rough time.

The name Éowyn comes from Old English but was popularized by JRR Tolkien. He created a character in The Lord of the Rings named Éowyn, a brave noblewoman.

Met Eireann has already issued a Weather Advisory. They’re monitoring the storm’s path and wind intensity. Expect more alerts as we get closer to Friday. It’s going to be very cold, with some of the strongest winds we’ve seen this winter.

CorkBeo will keep you updated on Storm Éowyn as it approaches. It looks like a stormy 24 hours ahead for Ireland and the UK.
