Tyneside: A winter storm is on its way to the UK. Storm Eowyn is expected to hit early Friday morning. It’s already causing school closures and travel issues.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for the North East. Winds could reach up to 90mph, which is pretty intense. There’s even a rare red warning in some areas.

This amber warning means power cuts might happen. Plus, there’s a risk of injury from flying debris. Buildings could also get damaged. Travel by road, rail, air, and ferry will likely be disrupted.

Newcastle Airport has already canceled several morning flights. Mainline rail travel is also facing major disruptions. So, if you have plans, keep an eye on the updates.

The amber wind warning kicks in at 6am on Friday and lasts until 9pm. A yellow warning starts at midnight, warning of travel disruptions and potential injuries.

In Tyneside, winds will start picking up around 2am. By 5am, gusts could hit 50mph. The strongest winds are expected between 10am and 4pm, reaching over 70mph.

County Durham will also feel the impact. Winds will strengthen from 7am, with gusts over 60mph. The worst winds are expected at lunchtime, but it’ll be windy all day.

Northumberland isn’t escaping either. Winds will start at 5am, with gusts over 70mph possible from 10am. The peak could reach 77mph between midday and 2pm.
