Ireland braces for Storm Éowyn as a Status Orange Alert warns of severe winds and potential power outages across the country this Friday
Dublin: A Status Orange Wind Alert is now in effect for all of Ireland. Met Éireann has warned us about severe winds, with gusts reaching up to 130 km/h. That’s pretty intense!
This storm could cause major travel issues, airport closures, and power cuts. Remember the last time we had that snow? Over 80,000 homes were left without power for days. It was a mess!
The alert kicks in early Friday morning and lasts until 5 PM. The West and Northwest are expected to bear the brunt of Storm Éowyn. There’s even talk of a second storm coming in on Sunday.
Forecasters are warning us to expect fallen trees, power outages, and tough travel conditions. So, it’s best to stay alert and be prepared.
They’re advising everyone to keep an eye on the weather updates. Check out met.ie or the Met Éireann app for the latest info. It’s also smart to have your phone charged and emergency numbers handy.
Make sure you have some food and water stocked up, just in case you can’t go out. If you’re driving, watch out for fallen trees and debris. Those high-sided vehicles can be tricky in strong winds!
ESB Networks is warning about the dangers of fallen power lines. If you see any, stay away and report them immediately. You can reach ESB Emergency Services at 1800 372 999.
Also, keep an eye on power restoration times at powercheck.ie. And if you’re near the coast, it’s best to stay away. The Irish Coast Guard says, “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.”
Flooding is another concern. Don’t try to walk or drive through flooded areas. Just a little bit of fast-flowing water can knock you off your feet!
Right now, it looks like Connacht and Ulster will see the worst of it, but the whole West Coast should prepare for severe conditions starting Friday morning.
