Darlington: A rapist named John North has died while serving time at HMP Northumberland. He was caught after his brave victim spoke out against him.

North was serving a 10-year sentence for multiple sexual offenses against children. He had a long history of abuse, with his latest victim coming forward when she was just 10 years old.

In June 2021, he pleaded guilty to more charges and received an additional 42 months in prison. His victim expressed hope for closure after his sentencing.

Sadly, just over three years into his sentence, North passed away. An inquest revealed he was admitted to a hospital with jaundice and abdominal pain.

Doctors found he had incurable lung cancer that had spread to his liver. He received palliative care until he died on August 7, 2024.

The coroner confirmed that North’s death was due to natural causes. A review of his care showed it was on par with what he would have received outside prison.

His case highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse. Victims deserve to be heard and supported in their healing journey.
