Cork: Plans are in for 124 new apartments and a cafe on Carrigaline Road. Barry’s Field Limited submitted these plans to Cork City Council.

The site is currently a field. The new apartments will have one, two, and three-bedroom options. Buildings will range from one to five stories tall. There will also be a courtyard and a green space with plants and trees.

Along with the apartments, the proposal includes a cafe, two office units, and a new car park. They plan to add bike storage and improve pedestrian crossings. A new storm drain and an ESB substation are also part of the plans.

The developers aim to create a vibrant residential area that fits well with Douglas Village. The site is close to Douglas Village Shopping Centre and bus stops for easy access to the city center.

Cork City Council will decide on the plans by March 25. This new development will be a big boost for Douglas, which is also getting 600 new homes in nearby Maryborough and over 50 homes in Douglas itself.

In other news, an old pub on the northside of Cork is set to become apartments. There are also plans for a 408-room student accommodation site on Model Farm Road.

These developments come during a housing crisis in Cork. Recently, a one-bedroom apartment in the city center was listed for €2,700 per month. One student even shared their experience of living with eight others for €5,400 a month.
