Storm Eowyn is causing school closures in the North East, with strong winds expected. Safety measures are in place for students and staff.
Northumberland: Schools are shutting down on Friday due to Storm Eowyn. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for strong winds.
Winds could reach up to 90mph, which is pretty intense. The amber warning is in effect from 6am to 9pm. Some areas even have a rare red warning.
Many train services are also affected. LNER announced no trains will run north of Newcastle. It’s best to avoid travel if you can.
Borders Buses canceled all school and local bus services for the day. They’re prioritizing safety, which makes sense given the conditions.
Northumberland County Council mentioned that some drivers live in areas under a red warning. So, they decided to cancel services to keep everyone safe.
So far, 18 schools in Northumberland have confirmed closures. They’re taking this seriously due to the potential risks involved.
Some of the schools closed include Hipsburn Primary and Berwick Academy. They’ll keep updating the list as needed.
Stay safe out there, and if you need updates, check in with local news or community groups.
