Newcastle: Storm Eowyn is on its way, and it’s not looking good for travel. The storm is expected to hit on Friday, January 24, causing a lot of chaos. Many public transport services are already cancelled to prepare for the severe weather.

A red warning is in effect for southern Scotland, including cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow. This warning lasts from 10am to 5pm on Friday. The Met Office warns of “very dangerous” conditions. Northern Ireland is also under a red warning from 7am to 2pm on the same day.

In the North East, an amber alert is in place for strong winds up to 80mph from 6am to 9pm. Heavy rain and snow are also expected, and the stormy weather might stick around through the weekend.

Nexus is advising folks using the Tyne and Wear Metro to plan ahead. They’ve issued an amber warning due to the likelihood of disruptions. If things get really bad, they might not have replacement buses available everywhere.

Metro services are supposed to run as usual, but there’s a good chance of delays. The cross-Tyne Shields Ferry will be out of service all day, but a replacement bus will run every half hour via the Tyne Tunnel.

To keep up with the latest, check out the Nexus website or follow them on social media. The UK’s rail network is already feeling the impact, with many train operators changing their schedules.

TransPennine is advising against travel on key routes like Newcastle, York, and Edinburgh. If you have tickets for Friday, you can use them until Monday, January 27.

They warned that services might run on a different timetable, with possible delays and cancellations. CrossCountry is also changing its services, telling passengers not to travel between York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh.

Northern has warned that its services could be cancelled or delayed. Lumo is urging people to avoid trips between Newcastle and Edinburgh. LNER has also advised against traveling to or from stations north of York on Friday.

LNER stated that no trains will run north of Newcastle in either direction on that day. They’re still working on updating their timetable, but expect delays and cancellations due to the weather.
