Heroic Cork Garda Stabbed During Callout Honoured by His Community

Cork: A local Garda, Timothy McSweeney, faced a terrifying situation. He was called to a domestic dispute and ended up being stabbed multiple times. Thankfully, he’s okay now.

Recently, he was honored as Blarney Person of the Year. This award recognizes his incredible bravery during that scary incident back in March 2022.

When he arrived at the scene, he found an intoxicated man acting aggressively. The woman who called for help was terrified for her life and her kids.

The man asked to grab his jacket from the kitchen. But instead of a jacket, he grabbed a knife. Garda McSweeney quickly told the woman and children to run.

A struggle broke out, and he managed to wrestle the man to the ground. Unfortunately, he got several stab wounds to his arm during the fight.

After subduing the suspect, he called for backup. Armed Gardaí arrived and arrested the man. Meanwhile, Garda McSweeney was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Reflecting on the incident, he said the man came at him with a large knife. He acted fast to protect the woman and kids.

Last year, he received the Scott Medal, the highest honor from the Garda Commissioner. Now, being named Blarney Person of the Year is another well-deserved recognition.

The awards ceremony took place at The Castle Hotel, with local leaders celebrating the community’s heroes. One organizer, Kate Durrant, highlighted the importance of positivity in our world.
