Haydon Bridge: A drink-driver caused a crash after being reported by a neighbor. Catherine Rowe, 63, drove her Toyota Aygo while over the limit.

Her neighbor saw her getting into the car and suspected she was drunk. They followed her and called the police. Before help arrived, Rowe swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed.

Only Rowe was injured and she went to the hospital. A blood test showed she had 192mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, well over the legal limit of 80mg.

Rowe, from Strother Close, was banned from driving for 20 months. She also received a £240 fine and must pay additional costs.

The prosecutor explained how the neighbor acted quickly after seeing Rowe leave her house. The other driver involved in the crash tried to avoid Rowe but still made contact.

Rowe’s lawyer mentioned she had no prior convictions and was struggling with her parents’ deaths. She expressed remorse and is seeking help for her alcohol issues.
