Storm Éowyn is set to hit the North East, bringing strong winds and potential disruptions. Stay safe and keep an eye on the weather updates!
Newcastle: Storm Éowyn is making its way to the North East, and folks are getting ready. This storm is the first big one of 2025, and it’s no joke. The Met Office has upgraded the warning to amber, which means we should all be on high alert.
From 6am to 9pm this Friday, expect some serious winds. Areas like County Durham, Gateshead, and Sunderland are in the path. They’re warning about possible power cuts and road disruptions. So, if you have plans, you might want to rethink them.
Winds will start picking up around 3am, but the real punch comes around 9am. Berwick upon Tweed is looking at gusts over 47mph. That’s pretty wild! If the forecasts hold up, we could see gale-force winds.
Travel could get tricky too. Berwick train station is on the LNER line, and strong winds can cause trees to fall on the tracks. National Rail has already warned that trains might run slower, leading to delays. So, keep that in mind if you’re heading out.
The worst of the storm is expected between noon and 6pm, with winds possibly hitting 80mph in some areas. The Met Office is advising everyone to be cautious. They’re saying there’s a real chance of travel delays, road closures, and even risks to life and property.
So, if you’re out and about on Friday, stay safe and keep checking for updates. Better to be prepared than caught off guard!
