Libby Vernon faked a twin pregnancy, held a gender reveal party, then claimed the babies died, devastating her boyfriend.
Vernon, age 23, wore a fake baby bump, specifically a silicone bump under her clothes. Her boyfriend lived far away, and she had faked a pregnancy before.
She also claimed she had a baby earlier with an “abusive” ex. She claimed that baby died after four days and that she wanted to raise it with her then-current boyfriend.
Vernon sent him a baby photo with a message, “someone wants to meet you.” She then said the baby stopped breathing and that CPR did not help. She provided a death certificate which listed Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as the cause.
Later, she claimed she had twins, saying they were boys. She had a party in his hometown, and at first, she said she miscarried. But that was a mistake, and the fake pregnancy continued onward.
After the party, she went toward a hospital and told the boyfriend of another miscarriage. Medics confirmed the fake babies died, sources report.
The boyfriend went to the hospital, but Vernon never went to the maternity ward. Also, she wore the fake bump, which distressed him greatly.
Vernon’s lawyer spoke in court, stating no guidelines existed for her crimes. It appears she has deeper issues and currently lacks mental health diagnoses.
Vernon admitted to sending false messages and pleaded guilty to four counts for conveying false information. She also pleaded to sending harmful lies, admitting to five counts of that. She additionally admitted to faking a death certificate.
Her sentencing is scheduled for March 19, 2025. She got bail but cannot contact her victim, nor can she go to Cumbria, England.
