Sunderland City Council has approved new road and industrial developments at the International Advanced Manufacturing Park, aiming to boost local jobs and economy.
Sunderland: City councillors have approved plans for new roads and industrial spaces. This decision was made during a recent meeting of the Planning and Highways Committee.
The International Advanced Manufacturing Park, or IAMP, is a key site for advanced manufacturing. It’s a joint project between Sunderland and South Tyneside Councils, aiming to create thousands of jobs.
Last year, plans were submitted for over 81,000 square meters of new industrial space. This area is part of the southern development zone of the IAMP, close to Nissan.
The proposals include up to three new industrial units. These units will offer various warehouse spaces and modern office facilities, along with parking for vehicles and HGVs.
Landscaping plans also feature new trees and hedges to enhance the site’s appearance and environment. The application seeks permission for the industrial units and road improvements.
Council planning officers recommended approval, highlighting the importance of this development for job creation in Sunderland and the wider region.
The committee unanimously supported the plans. Councillor Michael Dixon praised the efforts of the planning officers and noted the positive impact of the IAMP over the years.
Peter Razaq, managing director at Town End Farm Partnership Ltd, expressed his excitement about the decision. He believes this project will meet the demand for quality industrial units in the North East.
Further applications will be needed to finalize the development. The council also requested contributions for monitoring biodiversity and improving local infrastructure.
