Sunderland: A best-selling author, Glenda Young, has raised over £10,000 for a loneliness charity. Her ‘cosy crime’ novels are popular and set in the North East, especially in Ryhope.

Glenda graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2001. She studied journalism and later became an author. Her family sagas and crime series are loved by many. Her books are available worldwide and have been nominated for awards.

In January 2024, Glenda partnered with Alfa Leisureplex Group. They sell her books in all 24 of their locations. For every book sold, £1.50 goes to Re-engage, which helps older people connect with their communities.

Glenda expressed pride in her books being enjoyed by Alfa’s customers. She loves hearing that readers can’t put her books down while supporting a great cause.

Emma Russell from Alfa Leisureplex said it’s been an honor to support Re-engage. They raised £100,000 in the past year for this worthy cause. She praised Glenda’s books, noting that guests keep coming back for more.

Jenny Willott, CEO of Re-engage, thanked Glenda and Alfa for their amazing support. The funds help run social groups and services for lonely older people. She hopes the partnership continues to grow.
