Scarlett Vickers’ mother insists her partner loved their daughter and it was an accident, as the trial continues at Teesside Crown Court
Darlington: The mother of Scarlett Vickers shared some heartfelt words in court. She described her partner as a loving dad who was very involved in their daughter’s life.
Scarlett, just 14, tragically died from a stab wound at home last July. Her dad, Simon Vickers, is facing murder charges but denies any wrongdoing. He’s currently on trial at Teesside Crown Court.
On Tuesday, Sarah Hall, Scarlett’s mum, testified. She’s been with Simon for 27 years and firmly believes he would never hurt their daughter.
When asked about their family life, Sarah painted a picture of happiness. She said they lived in their own little bubble, enjoying fun times together. Scarlett was becoming more independent, but they still had a great bond.
Sarah mentioned that Simon treated Scarlett well and was a hands-on dad. She emphasized how much he loved her.
Scarlett was Sarah’s “number one” and her best friend. She wouldn’t be with Simon if she thought he could harm their daughter. On the night of the incident, they were excitedly discussing a family holiday.
Things were light-hearted, with the family throwing grapes at each other in the kitchen. Sarah was cooking spaghetti bolognese, and everything felt joyful. There was no sign of trouble at all.
Then, in a heartbreaking moment, Scarlett got hurt. Sarah recalled Scarlett saying “Ow” and the panic that followed. She rushed to help, realizing something was very wrong.
When asked if Simon ever threatened Scarlett, Sarah said no. She couldn’t believe he would ever hurt her. She’s convinced it was an accident and that he loved Scarlett deeply.
As the trial goes on, Sarah remains steadfast in her support for Simon, insisting it was a tragic accident.
