Cork City: Cork has been facing serious issues with drinkable water for years.

Tonight, Prime Time will investigate these problems. They claim there are multiple breaches in water safety standards that residents didn’t know about. This leaves people in Cork unaware of the risks they face.

The report shows that over the past nine months, drinking water standards were not reported to residents. Tests from the Lee Road treatment plant, which supplies 70% of the city, found high manganese levels in about a third of the samples last year.

CorkBeo has covered the manganese issue before. Local TD Mick Barry even showed dirty water from a tap in the Dail last October.

Residents are frustrated. Steffen Liebig, who lives with his family, worries about the brown water. In another part of the city, Dan O’Shea’s family has stopped drinking tap water due to discoloration. Business owner Pamela O’Keeffe says the water issues are hurting her laundrette.

Locals want immediate action and better communication from the authorities.

You can catch the full report and interviews with Uisce Éireann on Prime Time tonight at 9:35 PM after the main news.
