A unique punk shirt sold for £3,500 at a Newcastle auction, highlighting its historical significance in fashion and music.
Newcastle: A punk fan’s dedication has paid off big time. A rare shirt sold for £3,500 at an auction. This shirt was kept for years and bought from a Vivien Westwood boutique.
The shirt is indigo-blue and features unique straps, buckles, and a special ring on the chest. It has petrol-blue sleeves and a khaki cuff on one wrist. It also has original labels from the ‘Seditionaries Exclusive Collection’ and the famous ‘SEX’ boutique.
According to auctioneer Tom Robson, this shirt is a rare piece from the 1970s punk movement. It shows the importance of fashion and music from that time. The owner kept it because of its significance.
The vendor got the shirt from a friend who had outgrown it. This friend visited famous London boutiques like Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s SEX. The vendor has always loved punk culture.
Other items sold at the auction included punk trousers and shirts, fetching good prices. The punk movement, led by bands like the Sex Pistols, was born from feelings of frustration and alienation.
Newcastle venues like Rockshots hosted punk events, featuring local bands like The Angelic Upstarts and Penetration.
