From today, the price of a pint of Guinness in Irish pubs will increase, affecting many popular drinks. This marks the fourth price hike in two years.
Dublin: The price of a pint of Guinness is going up today. This is tough news for pubs already facing challenges.
The increase is six cents on Diageo products. This includes popular drinks like Carlsberg and Hop House 13. It’s the fourth hike in just two years.
Some pubs may now charge up to €6 for a pint, with prices possibly exceeding €7 in Dublin. This is a big jump from the past.
Back in 1982, a pint of Guinness cost just 99p. Adjusted for inflation, that’s about €3 today. In 1951, it was even cheaper at €1.76.
Four years ago, the average pint was around €5. Now, with prices rising, the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland is concerned. They say customers will feel the pinch.
Pat Crotty, the VFI CEO, mentioned that publicans are facing rising costs everywhere. They need support to manage these increases and keep their pubs open.
He emphasized that this issue goes beyond just the price of a pint. Many small, community pubs are struggling to survive without help.
