A pipe bomb exploded in Limerick city around 4am today, landing in a garden. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and an investigation is underway.
The bomb landed in a garden on Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Gardai are now investigating the incident.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed they are looking into the explosion at the home. They stated that no injuries have been reported, and inquiries are ongoing.
This area has seen violence before. Last October, a teenager was hospitalized after a shooting on the same street. In January 2024, a man in his 30s was also shot nearby.
In July 2023, another device exploded on Hyde Road, injuring a man. Gardai have dealt with similar incidents in Cork recently.
In September, officers responded to two explosive incidents in one night in Ballyvolane. The following month, they investigated a firebomb attack in Ballyphehane.
In one case, the Army Bomb Disposal Team was called to safely handle an unexploded grenade thrown at a house in Meadow Park Avenue.
