A night out led to chaos at Newcastle Central Station when a passenger sleepwalked onto the tracks, halting all train services temporarily.
Newcastle: A passenger caused a major disruption at Newcastle Central Station. He sleepwalked onto the tracks, stopping all train services.
Bailey Netherington, 23, was returning to Scotland after a night out in London. He got off the train at Newcastle without realizing it.
While on the tracks, he acted aggressively towards police trying to help him. He later claimed he had no memory of the incident and must have been sleepwalking.
Netherington was fined £180 and ordered to pay additional costs after pleading guilty to trespassing. The judge noted the seriousness of his actions.
On January 4, he was trying to catch a train back to Edinburgh. Staff noticed him walking on the tracks and alerted the police.
Prosecutors highlighted the danger he posed, especially on a busy Saturday. Officers had to intervene due to his aggressive behavior.
Netherington had a couple of prior offenses, including a public order issue. His lawyer mentioned he had no idea how he ended up on the tracks.
Despite drinking heavily the night before, he hadn’t consumed alcohol that day. It was as if he sleepwalked off the platform.
