Newcastle: A police worker made a big mistake. Jill Alexander, who worked for Northumbria Police, drove to work while drunk. She had been with the force for 26 years.

On December 20, she showed up at Etal Lane Police Station smelling of alcohol. A sergeant noticed and asked her about it. She denied drinking but later admitted to having whiskey earlier that morning.

Her breath test showed she was over the limit. The legal limit is 35mcg, but she blew 77mcg. Now, she’s banned from driving for 20 months. It’s a tough lesson for her.

Jill’s lawyer said she had never been in trouble before. She had even been praised for her work during the Sunderland riots. But lately, she struggled with alcohol.

She’s vowed to stay sober and has already stopped drinking. Along with the ban, she was fined £350 and has to pay additional costs. It’s a hard road ahead for her.
