A Cramlington care home has donated a mobility scooter to 68-year-old Terry Black, helping him regain his independence and mobility after health issues.
Terry used to be very active. But health issues made it hard for him to drive. He reached out to the community for help, hoping to borrow an electric wheelchair.
Philip Armstrong, a facilities assistant at the care home, saw Terry’s request. He knew they had a scooter available. After some safety checks, he was excited to help Terry regain his freedom.
Terry expressed his gratitude, saying the scooter changed his life. He felt like Cinderella with a fairy godmother. Now, he can go out without needing a taxi or asking for help.
Before retiring, Terry worked as an assistant set decorator in theaters. He met many famous people, including Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. He left his career early to care for his mother with dementia.
Philip was happy to make a difference. He said it was amazing to help Terry get around town again. The scooter has truly opened up Terry’s world.
