Leeds: Northern Trains is taking a stand against vapers. They’ve had a flood of complaints from passengers. Since April 2024, 77 people have raised concerns about vaping on their trains.

Out of those, 29 wrote formal complaints, while 59 took to social media. Vaping has been banned on Northern services and at stations since 2014. But some folks still ignore the rules.

It’s not just a few cases either. Crew members catch people vaping daily. Some even get rude when asked to stop. It’s frustrating for everyone involved.

People have been sneaky too, trying to vape in toilets or blowing vapor into footwells. This not only annoys other passengers but can also trigger smoke alarms. When that happens, it delays the whole service.

Matt Rice, the Chief Operating Officer, made it clear: vaping is a no-go on their trains and at stations. He urged travelers to be considerate so everyone can have a pleasant ride.

If someone is caught vaping, they might be asked to leave the train. Northern won’t tolerate any aggressive behavior in response. Smoking is also illegal on their trains, and offenders can face fines.

They’re encouraging anyone who sees this kind of behavior to report it to the British Transport Police. Just text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40.
