A Teesside NHS worker celebrated New Year’s Eve with a £1m EuroMillions win, changing his life just minutes before the clock struck midnight
He had a feeling about the draw and bought two tickets at Asda. With seconds to spare, he checked his tickets while his partner was out of the room.
“I’ve had some great New Year’s Eves, but this one tops them all!” he said. He thought he matched the Millionaire Maker code but wasn’t sure without his glasses.
His stepdaughter scanned the ticket, and when the win popped up, they both burst into laughter. His partner thought they were just celebrating the New Year.
Instead of saying “Happy New Year,” he told her, “I think we’re millionaires!” She didn’t believe him at first. The rest of the night was a blur of excitement.
Andy called the National Lottery on New Year’s Day to confirm his win. Even then, it didn’t feel real. He spent just £2.50 on a Lucky Dip ticket and became a millionaire.
He shared the news with his coworkers, who congratulated him and joked about it. Andy rarely plays EuroMillions, but something told him to buy those tickets.
He and his fiancée, Mandy, are already planning their future. They found a home and had an offer accepted. They’re getting married in May and can’t wait to start their life together mortgage-free.
Andy also bought a VW Campervan for weekend adventures. He’s excited to travel with their dog, Bella. He plans to help his stepdaughter buy her own home too.
He loves his job as a medical delivery driver and plans to keep working. Mandy has resigned to enjoy more flexibility for trips. They’re looking forward to more cruising adventures, too.
It’s amazing how a simple lottery ticket changed their lives. The world is now their oyster, and they can’t wait to explore it together.
