Newcastle: Emma Felling is a history lover and reenactor at Newcastle Castle. She plays Mary Bruce, sister of Robert the Bruce. Emma’s passion for history started young.

Growing up in Scarborough, she attended a Viking festival. A Viking lady visited her school and sparked her interest. Emma began reenacting in her teens but had to stop due to costs.

When she moved to Newcastle, she discovered the castle had a reenactment group. She joined as a volunteer and now helps lead the group. They focus on the early 1300s, portraying real historical figures.

Emma enjoys sharing her love for history. She hopes to inspire kids to become historians or archaeologists. She loves engaging with visitors, demonstrating medieval life, and even making hair gel from flaxseed oil.

Emma is also an author. Her debut novel, “Fight Not For Glory,” will be published soon. It explores a lesser-known period of Robert the Bruce’s reign, focusing on everyday life in Scotland.

She aims to make history accessible and interesting for everyone. Emma’s enthusiasm is contagious, and she’s dedicated to bringing the past to life for future generations.
