Littleover Sandwich Bar Reopens With Caribbean Twist After Closure

That sandwich shop in Littleover is now open again. Locals know Panninis on Blagreaves Lane well. It closed earlier this year, and people wondered what would happen next.

The wait is over; good news arrived. Chef Rajin Singh took over the shop and aims to revive Panninis. He plans to keep the same menu but will add a few specials too.

Rajin was born in British Guiana and grew up on Saint Martin. He moved to Derby six years ago. He once ran a Jamaican restaurant, wanting a fresh start in Britain. Rajin worked at local restaurants, eventually rising to head chef at Harpurs Melbourne.

Now Rajin runs his own place again and looks forward to welcoming people back. They worked hard to prepare. The shop has Panninis’ old menu, which people liked a lot back then. They will offer Caribbean-inspired specials. They recently had curried goat as a special, coming with rice, peas, and plantain, and of course, they still have sandwiches.

Specials happen every other day now, but they hope to offer them daily later. They need to hire more staff too. Right now, they are settling in.

Panninis offers many sandwiches cheaply. There are about 28 choices total, and sandwiches start at less than £4. These include sausage, bacon, and cheese. Paninis and club sandwiches cost more.

Rajin used to buy sandwiches there. He always thought it was a great shop that existed for over twenty years. The old owners sold it before, but he lacked the funds then.

Someone else bought it, but it didn’t go very well, he heard. This time, he had enough money, and he knew it was the right place. He thought, “Let’s go for it!”

They feel proud to own Panninis. They opened last month and are doing okay. Now, they want people to know they are open and excited to meet locals.

Find Panninis at Blagreaves Lane and Stenson Road. It is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. On Saturdays, its hours are 9 AM to 2 PM.
