Cork: The annual Valentine’s Party for Older People is back! It’s happening on February 6th at Mahon’s Red Cove Inn. This event is all about bringing joy to those who might feel lonely.

Everyone in Cork’s elderly community is welcome, whether single or not. For just €10, you get a two-course meal, live music, and a chance to win in the raffle. Plus, each guest will receive a lovely rose from Cork’s Flower Studio.

This party has been a tradition for over 20 years, organized by the Mahon Community Development Project. They host many events throughout the year, like summer outings and weekly coffee mornings.

The meals will be prepared by the Men’s Cooking Groups, featuring a full roast dinner and a surprise dessert. Viv Sadd, the group manager, mentioned they usually see around 100 attendees, and tickets sell out quickly. So, if you’re interested, call their facility soon!

Students from the Cork College of FET Mahon Youthreach Centre are busy making decorations for the event.

Viv shared that Valentine’s Day is often seen as just for couples. But this party is a reminder that love can be for everyone. Many attendees have been coming for years and even have their favorite seats.

It’s a great alternative for those who might not have a partner. And if you know someone who can’t make it, they can join the weekly coffee mornings every Monday at the center.

Events for the elderly in Cork are becoming more popular. GAA clubs are also getting involved, hosting their own Coffee and Chat mornings. Midleton GAA has been running these gatherings for two years, and they’re a hit!

Last year, a CorkBeo reporter visited one of these coffee mornings to see what it was all about. It’s all about community and connection, sharing stories and experiences.
