He’s 61 years old and has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Another man, also named John Henry Sayers, aged 28, faces the same charges. Both live on Fossway in Byker.

Police were called to Fossway on Sunday evening. They reported a vehicle had crashed into a building and caught fire. A man in his 30s was seriously injured and is still in the hospital.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said they received a disturbance report around 7:30 PM. The vehicle collision and fire led to a fight involving several men. The injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two men, aged 60 and 20, were arrested and charged. They are set to appear in Newcastle Magistrates’ Court today. A teenager arrested at the scene has been released on bail.
