Ian Bailey’s ashes will be scattered in West Cork, honoring his wish and memory during a special memorial service organized by loved ones.
Bantry: Ian Bailey’s ashes are set to be scattered in West Cork. This will happen at a memorial service planned by his sister and lawyer. It’s been a year since he passed away unexpectedly.
His sister, Kay Reynolds, and lawyer, Frank Buttimer, are organizing the service. Ian was cremated shortly after his death, as per Kay’s wishes. They held a private ceremony at The Island Crematorium.
Ian had a serious heart condition and spent his last months in and out of the hospital. He was arrested twice in connection with Sophie’s murder but was never charged. He always denied any involvement.
Before he died, Ian insisted he was innocent in several interviews. Frank confirmed that a memorial service would take place in the coming months. He mentioned that Ian’s ashes are safely kept for Kay.
Kay recently visited, and they agreed to hold a ceremony. Ian loved West Cork and wanted his ashes scattered there. Frank said many of Ian’s friends would be invited to pay their respects.
He also noted that he hadn’t heard from the Gardai about the cold case review of Sophie’s murder. Frank added that Ian’s case is no longer his concern, but he wants to honor Kay’s wishes.
