Thanks to charity funding, Hexham hospital’s war memorial boards are beautifully restored, honoring local heroes from World War Two.
Hexham: The war memorial boards at Hexham hospital have been restored. These boards honor those who lost their lives in World War Two. They were showing signs of age and needed some TLC.
Located in the General Hospital, the boards list the names of local servicemen. They were originally in the chapel but got damaged over time. The wood glue had deteriorated, causing splits.
Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity stepped in to fund the restoration. Their staff worked hard to secure the funding needed for this important project.
Reverend Andrew Patterson, a chaplain at the hospital, expressed how vital this restoration is. He said it helps keep the memory of these heroes alive for the community.
Kim Minnis, the matron, shared her memories of the old memorial. She noted that many local families are still connected to the hospital, making this restoration meaningful.
Rob Graham, from the charity, highlighted how donations make projects like this possible. He emphasized the importance of supporting the community through such initiatives.
