Council approves new turnstiles for Hebburn Town Football Club. This enables them to meet FA rules and move up leagues.
Each turnstile building will use grey metal and measure 2.6 by 2 meters. The height will reach 2.5 meters. Each building will hold two turnstiles, including cashier spaces. Two buildings go on North Drive, while one entrance is planned for Victoria Road and will have exit gates.
The club needs these, said the applicant. It helps them move up leagues and improve the fan experience. So, better turnstile entrances were requested.
Sport England had no problems with the plan. However, one resident nearby disagreed, worrying about the North Drive turnstile and citing noise and parking issues. They also brought up anti-social behavior, fearing more traffic and accidents, as well as foot traffic in the area.
Another resident, who lived on Victoria Road West, liked the idea. They said access would be easier and safer for fans using them. The turnstile could attract more people and help the club’s presence.
The council approved the plans in early 2025. They said they must meet FA rules, as these entrances let them reach Step 4 status. Without them, the club can’t advance.
The turnstiles are good for the club’s future and won’t hurt the pitch itself. Planners see no harm to the area and believe it won’t affect local homes visually.
Police should handle bad behavior, they noted. Existing noise from games is normal, and these new entrances will not worsen it. Games only last a short time, planners say, meaning the turnstiles won’t make a big difference to neighbors.
Construction must start within three years.
