Hebburn: A convicted drag racer is in trouble again. David Burdis has broken his driving ban for the fourth and fifth time in five years.

Back in 2018, he was jailed for dangerous driving. He participated in an illegal race in Cramlington, which had over 100 spectators. After that, he was banned from driving for at least a year.

Burdis never took the required extended driving test. Instead, he kept getting caught driving. In 2022, he was disqualified for drug driving, but that was reduced later.

Recently, he broke his ban twice in just three days. Now, he faces more jail time after admitting to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

On November 15, police got a tip about a disqualified driver. They found Burdis driving a Renault Trucks Master 35, registered in his name.

When stopped, he admitted he knew he was disqualified. He claimed he drove to Scotland to get the vehicle and was taking a chance driving it back.

Just three days later, he was caught driving the same vehicle again in Fenham. Officers confirmed he was still disqualified.

Burdis has a history of driving offenses, including a dangerous driving conviction in 2018. His lawyer mentioned he has medical issues and family problems.

The magistrates have postponed the case for a pre-sentence report. Burdis will return to court on March 11.
