Newcastle: Ailsa Boothroyd, a 57-year-old from Gosforth, is in trouble again. After seven years of staying out of the courts, she stole a £1,200 coat.

She walked into Fenwick, put on the designer jacket, and tried to leave. Security spotted her and detained her at the exit.

Boothroyd has a history of shoplifting with 16 offenses but hadn’t been in court since 2017. She was fined £120 and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.

The incident happened on November 23 last year. Prosecutors said she admitted to the theft when police arrived. The coat was recovered at the scene.

Her lawyer mentioned she was asked to take the coat for someone else. However, she could have spoken to security but chose not to.
