The SNP is calling for the UK to rejoin the EU. Their research indicates the UK’s GDP growth since 2019 is slower than the EU’s. The UK grew by 3.4%, while the EU grew by 5.3%. However, the UK’s GDP has been growing faster post-pandemic.
Exports to the EU have dropped from £216 billion in 2019 to £187 billion. Imports also fell slightly, from £309 billion to £301 billion. Sir Keir Starmer has stated that the UK will not rejoin the EU during his lifetime.
On Thursday, his spokesman mentioned that the government aims to strengthen ties with the EU. They want to improve relationships on trade and security, focusing on areas beneficial to the UK.
