A young girl named Mia was hurt by her family’s dog. Her mom, Rebecca Fisher, told the story. She called it a “freak accident” because the dog was sick. The dog is a two-year-old Pocket Bully named Bane.

Mia has had two operations since January 31. Doctors reopened her face to drain an infection. Rebecca recalls a very scary event where she saw her daughter covered in blood. The dog was usually loving, but he wasn’t feeling well.

Rebecca went to the bathroom for a minute. The dog laid on Mia, like normal, but he was too heavy and squashed her. Mia pushed him and touched his belly, which hurt him. He turned and bit her several times.

Mia has cuts on her hip and face. His paws and teeth hurt her face. Mia screamed for her mom, and her sister brought something to stop the bleeding. The event upset her older sister more than Mia, as she can’t sleep or look at Mia’s face.

Mia had surgery to fix her cheek. She loves dogs, even after this. The police now have their dog. South Yorkshire Police said three kids got attacked in 48 hours. Kids often get bit at home by their own dogs, and kids under seven are most at risk.

A girl, 16, needed surgery after a Cane Corso bit her in Rossington on January 29. The dog got destroyed with the owner’s okay. Two days later, a Pit Bull bit a boy, seven, near Doncaster, and on the same day, Mia got bit by Bane.

Police often warn about dangerous dogs. They had three dog incidents in 13 minutes last December. They showed photos of the three attacks to warn people, stating the risk is still here now.

Police want people to know this can happen. They stated that your dog can attack your child and owners must stop this from happening. Chief Inspector Emma Cheney leads work on dangerous dogs, and they did 347 dog investigations with kids under 15 in 2024.

On January 29, a Cane Corso bit a girl, 16, in Rossington and she needed surgery. The dog was a risk, so police destroyed it with the owner’s consent. On January 31, a Pocket Bully bit a girl in Sheffield, leaving her with face wounds.

The police seized that dog, and five hours later, a Pit Bull bit a boy, seven, in Thorne. He had puncture wounds, leading to the police seizing that dog, too.

In 2024, they did 347 dog investigations with children. You are more likely to get bit at home, and it is more dangerous for kids under seven because they cannot read a dog’s warning signs.

Dangerous dogs keep the police very busy. Police helped kids hurt from dog attacks in one 48-hour period. They try to prevent attacks, and owners need to step up and do their part.

Small changes and talks with kids can help by teaching them to respect a dog’s space, which can save lives. Police say never leave kids alone with dogs and make sure dogs have a safe space. Stair gates may keep kids and dogs safe.

Since the XL Bully ban, police took over 4,500 dogs.
