A prolific thief stole £400 designer sunglasses in Newcastle while on a community order. He was caught on CCTV and ordered to pay compensation after pleading guilty.
Instead, he waited for a moment when no one was watching. Then, he pocketed a pair worth £400 and left the store. CCTV footage captured the whole thing, leading to his identification. Unfortunately, the sunglasses were never recovered.
Black, from Whitfield Road in Elswick, pleaded guilty at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court. He was ordered to pay £200 in compensation. The court learned he had 42 previous offenses. His last trouble was in August 2024 for breaching a community order.
His defense lawyer, Michael Crowe, mentioned that Black is making progress on his community order. He is now on a methadone program and is engaging better with probation services.
