Durham’s Chinese New Year celebrations attracted large crowds, featuring a lion dance, children’s activities, and a tea ceremony, marking the Year of the Snake.
Durham: Crowds gathered in the city center for the vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations. The event was full of color and excitement.
This year’s festivities featured a lively lion dance, fun activities for kids, and a traditional tea ceremony. The celebrations took place at various venues, including the Oriental Museum and Clayport Library.
Food stalls filled the Market Place, and the lion dance kicked off a lively procession through the streets. The day-long party ran from 10 am to 4 pm, just like every year.
The lion dance began outside the Gala Theatre in Millennium Square. It symbolizes good luck for the year ahead. The mayor even caught a ‘lucky lettuce’ during the performance.
As the lion led the procession, crowds cheered and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. It was a wonderful way to welcome the Year of the Snake.
