Darlington: Lola McEvoy, the local MP, has hit a snag with council rules. She put up an office sign without getting the right permissions first. This sign is at her new office on Blackwellgate, which she just opened to the public.

People are upset about the delay in opening her office. Lola insists that keeping her staff safe is her top priority. The sign reads, “Lola McEvoy Member of Parliament for Darlington,” but it seems she skipped the planning permission step.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, she needed both advertisement and listed building consent for the sign. Local Conservative councillor Jonathan Dulston criticized her on social media, calling her “Lazy Lola” for not following the proper process.

Lola has admitted the mistake and is now working to get the necessary permissions. Her spokesperson explained that it was an administrative error. They thought they had permission to replace the old sign but didn’t realize more consent was needed.

Despite the hiccup, Lola is excited about her office being open. She mentioned that her team has been working there since last year, but they had to meet constituents in different places while waiting for security to be set up.

She reassured everyone that safety is a priority and is glad the office is now ready for visitors. If you want to stay updated on County Durham news, you can join their WhatsApp community for the latest updates.
