A couple, David and Hazel Byrne, were discovered deceased in their Kerry home, believed to be there for months; possibly due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Locals grew worried because they hadn’t seen the couple since late 2024. David was 50, and Hazel was 51. They found them in Glenbeigh on Tuesday morning after neighbors found a note when they checked on them. Then, they alerted the Gardaí about it.
Locals described David and Hazel as quiet people. They valued their privacy a lot. The Gardaí think it was a planned event and don’t suspect anyone else’s involvement in their deaths.
Investigators are waiting for post-mortem exam results. Locals saw them sometimes when they went to the post office or took walks on the beach. However, they largely kept to themselves.
Michael Cahill called it a tragedy and said the entire Glenbeigh community is shocked. He said the parish feels it deeply, even though few people knew the couple well. He sends his sympathies to their family.
Tommy Cahill also said the community is shocked. He stated it’s a close-knit area and news like this is rare. There’s a somber feeling in the area now, and he extends his sympathies to those affected by it.
Gardai are thoroughly investigating the case. They discovered the bodies on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025. The man and woman were both in their 50s, and the discovery happened at their home.
The scene is preserved now as the Garda Technical Bureau examines it. The Coroner and State Pathologist are aware. Both bodies are still at the scene while a technical exam comes first. Post-mortem results will further guide the investigation.
