The County Durham and Darlington Fire Service is hiring on-call firefighters. No experience needed, just a willingness to help your community!
On-call firefighters can come from all walks of life. Whether you’re a factory worker, a cook, or a student, there’s a spot for you. They’re paid for their time and help out during emergencies.
Over half of the firefighters in the service are on-call. They balance their regular jobs with responding to emergencies. When the call comes in, they switch gears and become lifesavers.
To apply, you need to live or work within five minutes of a fire station and be at least 17 years old. The job is paid, and you’ll get top-notch training to prepare you.
You’ll need to commit to at least 40 hours a week and attend weekly drills to sharpen your skills. It’s a big commitment, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
Kieran Hughes, a Watch Manager, shared that being a firefighter is unique. You’ll deal with everything from fires to animal rescues. It takes dedication, but the rewards are worth it.
The service is especially looking for recruits at several stations, including Stanhope and Barnard Castle. If you’re interested, check out their website for more details.
