Cork: Commuters are in for a bumpy ride. There are some big upgrades happening on the train lines. These changes will stick around until late 2025.

Evening and night work will be ongoing across the railway network. Expect disruptions between Glounthaune and Midleton for a while. This is all part of a plan to improve services, including a new sixth platform at Kent Station.

The goal is to have trains running every ten minutes between Glounthaune and Midleton. Work started in September 2024 and should wrap up by late 2026.

Kent Station is also getting a facelift. The sixth platform is set to be finished by March this year. Irish Rail has announced some cancellations during this time.

From January 6 to December 10, 2025, services from Glounthaune to Midleton will be affected. There are also cancellations for services from Cork to Cobh and Midleton in late January and February.

Don’t worry, though! Replacement bus services will be available for those affected. Irish Rail has apologized for the hassle.

This news comes right after Bus Éireann announced that city bus services are getting back to normal after last year’s cuts. The 220 service is under review to improve its schedule and reliability. A new timetable should be ready by late April 2025.
