Sheena Crowley, a key figure in Cork’s music scene, is honored as January’s Person of the Month for her efforts to keep Rory Gallagher’s guitar in Ireland.
Sheena led the campaign to bring Rory Gallagher’s famous Fender Stratocaster guitar back to Ireland. She was named Cork Person of the Month for her dedication to the local music community.
Her store, Crowley’s Music Centre, is located on Friar Street. Locals have embraced it as a sign of revitalization in the area. The shop offers instruments, workshops, and repair services.
Sheena raised awareness about Rory’s guitar being sold abroad. Through her hard work, she organized a tribute concert and appeared in the media to keep the guitar in public discussion.
Thanks to her efforts, the guitar was purchased by Live Nation Gaiety Ltd. It will be donated to the National Museum of Ireland for public display, including in Cork.
Sheena also raised over €75,000 on GoFundMe to buy other instruments and memorabilia owned by Rory. These items will be displayed in a museum in Cork City.
The Crowley family has a rich history in Cork’s music scene. Sheena’s grandfather started Crowley’s Music Centre in 1926. Rory Gallagher bought his famous Strat from Sheena’s father, Michael, in 1963.
Michael moved the store in the 1980s and worked with Sheena until his passing in 2010. After a brief closure, Sheena revived the business in 2023, continuing the family legacy.
At her award ceremony, Sheena expressed her joy in keeping Rory’s guitar in Ireland. She emphasized its importance to Cork’s culture and the joy it has brought to many.
Awards organizer Manus O’Callaghan praised Sheena’s tireless efforts. He noted that without her, the guitar might have been lost to the country forever.
Sheena’s name will be considered for Cork Person of the Year at the annual Gala Awards Lunch in January 2026.
