Cork’s County Council is on the lookout for part-time firefighters at ten stations. Join the team and make a difference in your community!
These roles are part-time, so you’ll need to be flexible. You’ll be on call for about 24 weeks a year. Your job will involve responding to fires and other emergencies, plus some community education work.
To apply, you need to be at least 18 and live in the area. Starting pay is €13,523 a year, which goes up the longer you stay, maxing out at €16,854 after eight years. You can also earn extra for attending drills and community safety events.
The stations looking for recruits include Clonakilty, Dunmanway, Skibbereen, and more. If you’re in good health, you’ll need to pass a medical exam and a fitness test. If you don’t pass the first time, you get one more shot.
Training is extensive. You’ll need to complete several courses, including firefighting skills and first aid. Plus, you’ll need to get your Class C HGV driving license.
It’s a lot of work, but it’s super rewarding. Just this month, Cork City Fire Brigade has saved lives in several fires, including one at a popular bakery. They even rescued a family’s pet dog from a house fire in Ballincollig, and the pup is expected to recover fully.
If you’re interested, make sure to apply by 4pm on Friday, January 24th. Check out more details online!
