Newcastle: Boyzone is back in the spotlight with their new documentary, “No Matter What.” It looks back at their amazing journey over the last 30 years.

The Irish boyband first hit the UK charts in late 1994. Their cover of “Love Me For A Reason” almost topped the Christmas charts, peaking at number 2. Other early hits included “Key To My Life” and “So Good.” They scored their first number 1 with “Words” in autumn 1996.

Boyzone had several number 1 hits like “A Different Beat” and “All That I Need.” Whenever they performed in the North East, fans showed up in large numbers, creating a lively atmosphere.

They often played at the Utilita Arena, previously known as the Telewest and Metro Radio Arena. Their early shows were part of the Smash Hits tour, but they quickly became headliners, filling the arena and City Hall.

After a seven-year break, Boyzone reunited in 2007 and toured the UK and Ireland. Sadly, Stephen passed away in Spain, which deeply affected the band.

Despite the loss, they continued as a four-piece to honor him. They performed in Newcastle in 2011 and 2013, and had a big outdoor show in Chester-le-Street in 2014. Their last performance in Tyneside was during their farewell tour in 2019.
