A BMW driver sped through a County Durham village at 91mph, claiming he was late for work. He received a 15-month driving ban and a fine.
County Durham: A BMW driver was caught speeding at 91mph in a 30mph zone. This happened in Haswell Plough last July.
Mark Bruce, 44, was driving more than three times the speed limit. A police speed camera van recorded his speed and reported it to the Roads and Armed Policing Unit.
Bruce was arrested for dangerous driving. He admitted he was speeding because he was late for work.
He pleaded guilty in court and received a 15-month driving ban. He also has to pay a £416 fine and £251 in court costs.
When his ban ends, he must pass an extended driving test. Thankfully, no one was injured due to his reckless driving.
Inspector Andrew Howarth emphasized that there’s no excuse for such speeding. He reminded everyone that speed limits exist for safety.
