Cork: This Bank Holiday Monday, be careful on the roads. Gardai are out in force with checkpoints across Munster. They want to keep everyone safe.

Road deaths have been rising in Ireland. Gardai are stepping up their efforts to catch speeders. Speeding is a major cause of serious accidents.

One driver learned this the hard way. His Honda Civic, with a flashy ‘Batwing’ spoiler, was stopped for speeding. He was caught going 157km/h in a 100km/h zone in Mallow.

Gardai shared a photo of the blue Honda on social media. They warned the driver he will face court soon. They remind everyone to slow down and drive safely.

They are also using a ‘Stealth Truck’ to catch distracted drivers. This unmarked truck lets them see into cars from above. It has been effective on Cork roads.

Last week, they caught 54 drivers distracted by their phones. One woman was even using two phones at once. This truck targets those using mobile devices while driving.

Statistics show that using a phone while driving is dangerous. Making a call increases crash risk four times. Texting raises it to 23 times.

Gardai stress that you can’t focus on driving if you’re busy with your phone. With bad driving conditions expected tonight, stay safe. Keep your phone out of reach and stick to speed limits.
