A 14-year-old boy was arrested as police tackle motorcycle crime in Gateshead, seizing several vehicles and responding to community concerns
On Sunday, officers focused on areas like Waverley Road and Fewster Square. They acted on tips from worried residents. During the operation, they found a stolen moped, a scooter, and several uninsured vehicles.
The police also arrested a 29-year-old man for driving under the influence. Both suspects were released on bail afterward. Four others faced court for not having insurance, and there were two drug-related stop and searches.
Chief Inspector Thomas Hart praised the operation, highlighting the teamwork involved. He noted that this was a major day of action, using drones and police motorbikes. The goal is to reduce the misery caused by such crimes in the community.
Hart emphasized that the police will continue to crack down on anti-social riders. He urged the public to report any suspicious activity. The more eyes on the street, the better.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth also expressed her support. She witnessed the police’s efforts firsthand and hopes it sends a strong message to offenders.
Residents are encouraged to share any details they have about motorcycle-related incidents. This includes vehicle registration numbers, descriptions of riders, and any other helpful information.
If you see something odd, don’t hesitate to reach out to the police. They’re here to help, and every bit of information counts.
